I want to write about this subject like I want to have a root canal. Sex, virginity, etc. Not for me! I have strong feelings and they include abstinence until marriage but I am merciful about those who fell off the wagon so to speak. But if I blog, I blog for God.
I want to honor the first kiss until marriage on TLC’s new show The Virgin Diaries. I am not sure I can endorse the show. But I admire the heck out of those who elected to wait until marriage. Here’s Tim Tebow’s take (you knew I’d work Tebow into this, didn’t you!) on abstinence. So I admire that commitment: It’s tough to do! (Even a dork like me had a few chances!) I admire them so much I DO NOT want to see abstinence as a freak show for television. In spite of articles like this, it’s what the Bible teaches:
“For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication.” I Thessa 4:3 (KJV)
Pretty clear I’d say. Just in case, try this:
“Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.” Hebrews 13:4 (KJV)
So there should not even be anything weird about waiting until marriage. (There’s plenty weird about talking about it! When I felt this blog was God’s will I fought it for a while! I really did not want to blog on sex!) But whether you waited or not, all have sinned and fall short of God’s glory (rough paraphrase of Romans 3:23) and all of us need what Jesus Christ did: He died on the cross for all our sins, whether sexual or not. (Here‘s how to receive Him!)
But, I applaud all those who want to wait until marriage. I think they’ll find out it was worth the wait! And about that awkward kiss: I am sure the couple didn’t think it was all that awkward. I applaud both of you for your commitment. Be blessed in your marriage! (By the way the oldest Duggar boy did the same thing – without the awkward part – not even kissing until the wedding. He courted his bride. That is a new idea becoming more fashionable in Christian circles. Not a bad idea.)
Now, back to bashing the EU and ICLEI! (After I lay down for a few minutes to get the red out of my face!)
